Putin announces 72-hour May ceasefire in Ukraine war | TVP World News

– Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a three-day ceasefire, set to begin on May 8, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s victory in World War II. The announcement comes just a little over a week after the Kremlin’s unilateral declaration of an Easter ceasefire, which Moscow was found to have violated on multiple occasions.

– A nationwide power outage hit Spain and Portugal, with partial outages also reported in France, leaving millions without electricity, according to media and local reports on Monday. In Spain, efforts to restore access to power have already begun.

– The conclave to elect Pope Francis’ successor will begin on May 7th. Some 135 cardinals from 70 countries are eligible to participate in the gathering, due to take place at the Sistine Chapel.
