The Vatican has announced that the Pope’s funeral will take place in Rome this Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 am local time.

WORLD LEADERS TO ATTEND POPE’S FUNERAL
World leaders such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and U.S. President Donald Trump have all confirmed they will travel to the Vatican to pay their respects to the late Pope Francis. Argentina’s President Javier Milei, who will lead his country’s delegation, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are also expected to attend. After hearing the news of the Pope’s passing Lula declared a seven-day mourning period in Brazil and expressed his sorrow, stating "humanity loses today a voice of respect and welcome for others."

Pope Francis has left behind a last will and testament detailing his burial wishes. Written in 2022, the document reflects his commitment to simplicity and humility. The Pope requested to be laid to rest in the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. This choice departs from tradition, as popes are typically buried in Saint Peter’s Basilica.
