How to Honor the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising? | Pulse of Culture
April 19 marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – the largest armed rebellion by Jews during WWII. To honor this pivotal moment in history, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews hosts its annual initiative, Daffodils. This powerful social campaign brings together volunteers, Polish celebrities, and the public to distribute yellow daffodils, a poignant symbol of the struggle against oppression.
Franciszek Bojańczyk, Chief Specialist for Communication and Diaspora Cooperation at POLIN Museum, explains the significance of the uprising and how we can commemorate it today. He also discusses the museum’s efforts to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive, particularly among younger generations, who are increasingly engaged with the painful yet important history.
This year, chef Robert Makłowicz and the popular band Kwiaty Jabłoni join the initiative to raise awareness and honor the heroes of the uprising. Through their involvement, we see the continued importance of remembering the sacrifices of those who fought for dignity.
Additionally, Bojańczyk introduces a new documentary shedding light on the Warsaw Ghetto through a recently rediscovered roll of film and personal diaries of a Polish fighter who witnessed the 1943 uprising.
